About Casey L. Fry, the Artist

I was born in 1974 in Huntsville Texas. Growing up in the country, I spent much of my time drawing and working with my hands, trying to create anything that my little imagination could conjure. I was always involved in art at school, as this seemed to be the only subject that I excelled at, or at least the only subject that I wanted to excel at. This was what I was known for while growing up; I was the kid who could draw.

Despite the encouragement toward a degree in an Engineering field, I wandered somewhat aimlessly through college, eventually earning a degree in Industrial Technology with a Residential Design and Development emphasis. During this chaotic quest for intellectual enhancement, I began taking all of the art classes that would fulfill the requirements of a minor (and very nearly another major). I found that I couldn't seem to get enough, gradually rediscovering my creative passion, finding a means of expression where I could not find words as well as a method of organizing my thoughts. This was a break through for me, as I have always had difficulty with thought organization as well as verbal articulation and expression. Out of curiosity I found myself in a sculpture class, under the instruction of the well-known and highly respected sculptor, James Surls. It was here that I discovered sculpture, and my passion intensified. Surls personally encouraged this passion and I continued in the subject under his instruction as much as possible until my graduation in the summer of 1998.

Shortly after graduation, I finally dipped my toes into a lifelong curiosity; photography. At the time, film was still the standard, and since it was somewhat cost-prohibitive, my progress was slow. However, in 2004, I was introduced to digital photography. This allowed me to experiment, without the fear of wasting precious film, and thus a new form of expression boomed. While abstract and architectural images are my forte, I do enjoy dabbling in more traditional photography and landscapes.
